A plain-language guide for Irvine
Read the source. Check the record.
Use the tool that fits your question. Check names in the state search. Read about the medicine on its own page.
01 State licence search
Use the state’s search to check a licence for doctors, nurses, pharmacies and other care workers. The care-check page explains each worker’s job and which board to choose.
02 Pharmacy licence types
This page links to each type of pharmacy licence. It has a search for sterile compounding, which means making medicine free of living germs.
03 California remote-care guidance
In September 2026, the state’s rule was clear: a doctor must have a California licence to treat someone who is in the state.
04 Health check before a prescription
California’s September 2026 rule permits a questionnaire as the health check before prescribing. It must provide enough information for proper care; filling it in is not always enough.
05 Federal answers on compounding
The agency that reviews medicines is called the Food and Drug Administration, abbreviated FDA. Compounding means making a drug to order. As of September 2026, these drugs do not have FDA approval. FDA does not check them for quality, benefits or harms before they reach patients.
06 Concerns about unapproved versions
FDA has reported mistakes with the amount of medicine given. It has also found false pharmacy labels. This page explains those concerns about unapproved weight medicines, as checked in September 2026. It also covers the unknown quality of products sold for human use with labels saying they are for laboratory research.
07 Government cash-price directory
TrumpRx is a government list of cash offers. As of September 2026, it does not send out medicines. A low first price may be an opening offer.
08 Medicare’s temporary help with medicine costs
As of September 2026, members who meet the health and plan rules pay $50 a month for the listed weight medicines. The programme is set to end December 31, 2027. Read who can take part and what the payment covers.
09 Pregnancy information in named labels
Read the label for the product being discussed. Pregnancy wording differs between these medicines in the labels checked in September 2026.
10 Emergency allergy guidance
MedlinePlus calls a severe allergic reaction a threat to life. Its advice for severe symptoms is to get emergency care.
11 Complaints about the person treating you
Choose the complaint link for the person who treated you. An MD is a medical doctor. A DO is a doctor of osteopathic medicine, another type of doctor. Nursing complaints include nurse practitioners, nurses who may assess patients and prescribe. A physician assistant provides care under an agreement with a supervising doctor in California, as of September 2026. The medical board usually does not handle fee disputes unless they affect safe care.
12 Complaints about a pharmacy
For a problem with a pharmacy or pharmacist, use the state pharmacy board. Drug prices and most insurance bills are outside the board’s role.
13 Business complaints and refunds
Business complaints can go to California’s Attorney General. The office may share your complaint with the business. It cannot give you personal legal advice.
A record and a recommendation are different
A licence search shows a person’s licence and any listed discipline. It does not rate how well that person would care for you.
Ask about your own goal, the proposed medicine and the plan for follow-up. Keep any unanswered point open for the conversation.
